Burning Human: Resurrection through fire
12/01/11 || InquisitorGeneralis
Burning Human have a generic band name and album titled, are from America, (a nation often dis’d around here for it’s extreme metal output) and feature a key member from famously hated metalcore act Shadows fall. Go ahead, prepare your book by it’s cover judgement statements now. I will wait.
You done? I can smell your hate…
Guess what fuckface, Burning Human overcome all of those supposed setbacks and deliver old school death metal as good as all the other bands in that genre who get a constant dicksucking around here like Vomitory, Facebreaker, Unleashed, and Grave. I like all those bands mind you. I figured that would get some attention though. It’s has been too long since I have covered some straight-up death metal so let’s get on with it. These five upstate New Yorkers are doing death just as good, if not better than, the established heavyweights on the north side of the Baltic Sea.
Burning Penis deliver American death metal in the vein of Malevolent Creation and Suffocation but with a bit less blasting and some more grooves. The production is quality but not overdone. This definitely sounds like something from the late 90’s, not 2000’s. Besides having excellent style and sound, Burning Human knows how to write a song too. A few months back I reviewed Facebreaker’s newest release Infected and noted that those Swedes needed to work on making more memorable songs. Burning Human has done just that: stuck with the successful death metal formula but added enough variation to make things interesting. Check out “Tormented mind”, “As good as dead”, and the fantastic title track for examples of what I’m beatin’ my cock over here. The breakdowns on here are groovy but not derivative and the songs managed to sound distinct while maintaining a unified style and tone.
Jason Bittner is a drumming machine. He is the best part of Shadows Fall by fucken far. I don’t hate that band like many others do, but they have lost my interest a bit. It is nice to hear someone as talented as Bittner playing a different style. Actually, his playing on “Resurrection through fire” is a bit tuned-down than what he does for Shadows Fall. This, however is a good because of all the vocal and guitar wankery that sometimes drags Shadows Fall down is completely absent from Burning Human. This is old-school death metal with a decidedly American flare. Jonah Radaelli’s vocals done are a low, guttural growl that goes well with the tunes but does not overpower the band. The guitar work is solid but not insane which is a nice surprise. Sometimes, I think solos and guitar sections are becoming at bit overdone. It is nice to hear a more subtle touch in that department.
“Resurrection through fire” will tickle the dicks of fans of Suffocation, Dying Fetus, Obituary, Grave, Bolt Thrower and our own Torture Division. What other bands do you need me to compare Burning Human to? Those are the fucking tits right there chief. There is nothing new going on here, but “Resurrection Through Fire” is well-done, great sounding death metal done right. I believe the following score is earned and deserved.
